Smoothies are tasty, cooling, nourishing and satisfying. But if you combine incompatible food items it may create Virudh Ahaar (wrong food combinations), which weakens Agni and causes lethargy & fatigue. Virudh Ahaar also lacks Prana energy. Combining milk with fruits is considered a Sanyog Virudh Ahaar. Here are 3 very simple smoothie recipes without milk that will nourish you and keep you cool this summer.
Grab a fresh watermelon and cut a moderate sized chunk. Wash clean with water and blend well. Squeeze 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice and add 2 pinches of Saindhaav Lavan (rock salt). Blend again. Now pour out in a tall glass and enjoy. Instead of chai, you can serve this to your guests too.
Rich in vitamins and many other nutrients, beets and carrots are good for your eyes and skin. Coriander will reduce burning sensation in the body due to summer heat. Cut half a beet along with one whole carrot and a few coriander leaves in small pieces. Now blend it well. Add 2 pinches of Saindhaav Lavan and a pinch of jeera powder (cumin), mix well and garnish with a few leaves of coriander. Drink fresh.
Take a fresh ripe mango and remove the seed. In a blender add 3-4 mint leaves and 1 teaspoon honey. Blend everything well and add half cup water if you want to make the smoothie thin. Add a pinch of cardamom powder and garnish with mint leaves. Mango and honey will replenish energy and mint will freshen you.
Drink freshly prepared smoothies and do not refrigerate or add ice cubes. Cold drinks can damage your digestive fire and lead to digestive problems.
