Causes of Mouth Ulcers
According to Ayurveda, ulcers are caused by the heat generated due to an aggravated pitta dosha. So, the first step to pacify pitta is to adopt a diet that doesn’t aggravate this dosha. Avoid all heating foods like tea, coffee, spicy foods, fried goods, and overly sour tastes. In addition to knowing what to avoid, you should also eat the right kind of foods, like cucumbers, potatoes, green leafy vegetables, cauliflowers, beans and pumpkins.
Home Remedies
-
Increase water uptake to 2-3 litres per day. You can also drink cooling coconut water along with regular water.
-
Make a paste using equal parts honey and coconut oil and apply it on the ulcers. Honey is cooling and excellent at healing stubborn ulcers while coconut is cooling and pitta-pacifying.
-
Take some chameli (jasmine) leaves and chew them until they resemble a paste. Hold this paste in your mouth against the sores. Jasmine pacifies the pitta and has been used for centuries to ease mouth ulcers.
-
Constipation is a major cause of pitta aggravation in the body. To clear your bowels effectively, try the Jiva Triphala tablets or have some amla (Indian Gooseberry) churan every day.
