Drinking warm water aggravates the agni, which helps regulate the digestive system and speed up the metabolism. The sour taste of the lemon acts against the Kapha dosha, causing a decrease in body fat. Ginger also acts on the Kapha dosha to decrease it and relieves gas and bloating.

This is because it balances the cold and dry properties of the aggravated Vata dosha with its warm and hydrating properties. It also hydrates the mucus membrane, loosening the accumulation of phlegm and mucus, and clearing the nasal passage.
