5 Exercises for Relief in Cervical Pain

Cervical pain is a joint disorder that affects the lower neck and upper back area of the body. Overtime, this can become a cause for concern because it affects the mobility and creates a constant discomfort which might need surgical intervention in very advanced cases. However, that can be avoided with timely intervention with Ayurveda. Neck pain and cervical pain can be treated with high degree of relief in Ayurveda with a combination of personalised herbal medicines, cervical Spondylosis exercise, neck pain relief exercise and Panchakarma therapies. But, in the initial stage you can take care of the pain at home by following some simple exercises, some of which are mentioned below.

  1. Side-to-side neck movement 

This is a very simple exercise in which you sit on a comfortable chair, with your hands laid in front of you on your knees and tilt your neck from one side to the other in a gentle sweeping movement. From the neutral position, gently tilt your neck to the right side as far as you can until it touches the right shoulder. Now, bring your head back to the neutral position very gently. Repeat this position on your left side taking care not to stress your neck muscles in the process. Repeat this process for 5 times on each side. This is very effective in relaxing the muscles and promoting good blood circulation which helps in relieving the pain.

  1. Forward neck tilt 

Another simple Cervical Spondylosis exercise is the forward neck tilt process. To do this, sit on a comfortable chair, or on a bed, and gently tilt your head forward until your chin touches the chest. Remember to go very slow and not to stress the muscle supporting your neck. To make this even more simpler for you, count from 1 to 5 as you move your head from the neutral position to the lower most extreme position until it touches the chest. Now, gently reverse the process and bring your head back to the neutral position similarly count till 5 and taking care not to do it very fast.  

  1. Circular rotations 

Another very effective neck pain relief exercise for cervical pain is the circular rotation of the neck. To do this it is very important to remember that you will have to keep your back in a very straight position. If you wish, you can sit on a chair that has a straight back but make sure that the back does not come up to the head so that you get enough space to rotate your neck and head. Now, place both of your palms on your hips in the seated position and gently start rotating your head in a circular motion. Start by gently lowering your head at a slight angle and think of it as a 12 position on an imaginary clock face, now start rotating until it reaches it reaches 3, 6, 9 and back again to the 12 marker.

  1. Marjariasana

Another very effective neck pain relief exercise for Cervical Spondylosis is the cat pose, also known as the Marjariasana. Doing this even more simpler, on a flat and clean surface kneel down with your hands place directly below your head like a cat. Now,  gently arch your backbone and raise it towards the ceiling making sure to keep contact with your knees and palms on the ground. Hold this position for 3 seconds and gently go back into a curved position which your backbone, making sure to look up straight by slightly elevating your head at this position.  

Limitations of exercises in pain relief

 Exercises, home therapies and home remedies our limited India scope offer much relief they can provide in your health conditions. For example, neck pain relief exercises hey work well add a new cell state of the problem, or when you are already undergoing a complete therapeutic treatment for the root cause of the problem. In all other conditions, cervical spondylitis exercise, or any other exercise that you watch on YouTube cannot give you the required amount of relief, much less treatment from the underlying problem. 

 How Panchakarma therapy is much more effective?

 As mentioned above, generalized remedies are just that – ‘general’. Ayurveda considers each individual unique, therefore the treatment regimen that must be followed has also hey the stipulation that it must be unique considering the persons age, previous health conditions, current Titan lifestyle patterns.  Exercise or treatment -- what is better for me?

 Before getting started with neck pain relief exercise for neck muscle pain or cervical pain, take a while to understand the best route ahead for you in terms of long-term health outcomes. Exercises, physiotherapy and home remedies work better in people who are already undergoing a proper and holistic treatment for the underlying root-cause of the problem. It is not meant to be a substitute for treatment.
