So, here’s a list of fun ways to teach your child how to spell correctly.
The sound matters
Tell your child to focus on the sounds in words rather than letters. That way, she/he is more likely to remember the spelling.
Highlight the tricky part
There might be a particular part of the word that your child struggles to remember. Look at the word together and highlight the part that they find particularly tricky.
Break it down
Try breaking down polysyllabic words to make each syllable easier to remember. Help your child decipher how many syllables there are in a word by using the clapping technique - one clap per syllable.
Picture it
Ask your child to conjure up a visual image of the spelling they’re trying to remember. This helps them remember it more quickly.
On their palm
This method employs the power of muscle memory and works best for kinesthetic learners who learn best through doing. Ask them to write each letter of the word into the palm or onto their leg with their finger. With enough repetitions, they’ll remember how the word felt to write.
