Search Icon

Ayurveda recommends the use of herbs to soothe the mind, strengthen resolve and help it stay calm. Here are five herbs that are able to affect the state of our consciousness and develop clarity of thought.

Brahmi (Bacopa mouneri:)

Brahmi means ‘that which gives knowledge of Brahma or the Supreme Reality’. This herb promotes mental calm and clarity. It also improves memory and concentration by boosting circulation to the brain.

Tulsi (Ocimumsanctum):

Tulsi is a plant sacred to Lord Vishnu because within it resides Goddess Lakshmi. Found in every Indian home, tulsi is offered up in temples and pujas alike. Sushruta Samhita and Charak Samhita speaks of this herb and believe that it generates goodness, joy, and virtue. Apart from this, Tulsi is also known to enhance cerebral circulation and control stress, thereby making it possible for you to meditate in peace.

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica):

Used by yogis for improved meditation, it is regarded as the most spiritual of all herbs since it helps develop the crown chakra. It nourishes the central nervous system and balances the left and right side of the brain and improves reflexes. It also combats stress, depression, and rebuilds energy reserves.

Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnate):

Passion flower’s remedial benefit calms the nerves and pacifies mind and body. This mild sedative restores physical and emotional exhaustion, restores mood balance, and helps us look inward for enlightenment.

Sage (Salvia officinalis):

Sage is invaluable for any spiritual practice. It’s a effective energy cleanser with its ability to uplift, purify, and bring positivity. It cleanses negativity from the body, improves your mood, and enhances cognitive function.
