According to Ayurveda, garbh sanskar is one of the best ways to welcome a mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually sound baby into the world. Following are some of the guidelines suggested in garbh sanskar:

Healthy eating habits:

Freshly prepared sattvic food including all five tastes (sweet, salty, pungent, bitter and sour) should be part of mother’s diet. The Ahara-rasa obtained from this diet helps to transfer the ojas from mother to child. It also nourishes the mother, supports the growth of the baby and helps in formation of breast milk.

Meditation, prayer, and positive thinking:

Meditation helps to de-stress, manage emotions, bring peace and tranquillity, and enhance concentration. The mantras and shlokas in our scriptures, when chanted aloud, help incorporate moral values and spiritual beliefs in the baby. They boosts positive thoughts in mother and the child.

Practising Yoga or light exercise:

Light exercise or yoga help build physical well-being of both the mother and the child. Pranayama, the breathing exercises, help to calm and relax the body while preparing you for breath-control during childbirth. Yoga increases flexibility, improves blood circulation, and reduces backaches during pregnancy.

Make ghee part of your diet:

Ayurveda recommends ghee made from cow’s-milk during the last two trimester of pregnancy. It is beneficial for the mental and physical development of the baby and helps to prevent congenital abnormalities in the foetus.

Channel your creativity:

Being creative during pregnancy not only keeps your mind occupied, but also passes on the art to your baby. Hobbies like painting, gardening can help deal with stress and keep you happy.
