Gallstones are hardened deposits that form in the gallbladder. They are formed when the bile in your body has too much cholesterol in it. It may also happen if the gallbladder isn’t emptied properly.

There are mainly three kinds of stones:

There might be several reasons behind the formation of gallbladder stones, namely genes, weight, diet and the health of your gallbladder. But whatever is triggering the condition, there are a few home remedies that can help with the management of gallstones.

  • Mix cucumber, beet and carrot juice in equal parts. Have it twice daily to non surgically dissolve gallstones.

  • Have peppermint tea twice a day. It soothes spams and instantly relieves pain that a gallbladder attack may cause

  • Juice a fresh pear. Dilute it in half a glass of warm water. Add a tsp of honey to it. Have it thrice a day.

  • Take a tsp of Saindhava lavanam or ordinary salt, mix it in a glass of hot water. Have it on an empty stomach. Lie on your right side for 45 minutes after drinking this. Do this twice a week

  • Have a teaspoon of Lemon juice every day. This naturally stops the liver from making cholesterol stones.

  • Massage the gallbladder area with castor oil every night, before going to bed.

In addition to these remedies, Ayurveda recommends including herbs like Haldi (turmeric), Citrus fruits, Adrak, Long pepper, and Hing in daily cooking. It also prescribes apatarpana (fasting), langhana (light diet) and virechana (mild purgation) as the combination of therapies to reduce the occurrence of gallbladder stones.
