Gond ke laddoo is a healthy sweet that is enjoyed by people of all age groups. It is especially beneficial for lactating mothers. If you’re wondering what gond is, it’s an edible gum found on the bark of a tree. Gond has been valued for its dietary and medicinal properties for a very long time. Having gond ke laddoo during winters is considered to be really healthy. It provides warmth, energy, and strength in these cold months. The classic and traditional combination of wheat flour, gond, and dry fruits is a special winter delicacy that’s enjoyed with warm milk for breakfast in North India.
Heat ghee in a pan and fry the pieces of gond pieces till they fluff up like popcorn. When they cool down, crush the pieces to a coarse powder and and set aside.
Sift the flour through a fine sieve and keep aside. Melt ghee in a frying pan, add oil, and heat for about 2 minutess. Add the flour and roast on low heat till it starts releasing its fragrance. This normally takes about 25-30 minutes.
Continue roasting the wheat flour until it turns brown. Add cardamom powder, dry ginger powder, khus khus, and chopped cashew nuts and almonds to it.
Mix well and remove from heat. Let the flour cool for a while. Add fine sugar and powdered gum to this mixture and mix well. You may use your hands to do so.
Shape the mixture into small round balls and, when they are completely cooled, store in an airtight container.
These laddoos have a shelf life of up to 40-50 days. You can warm them a little bit before eating to enhance their taste.
Hope you enjoy this delicious sweet during the winters and feel energetic and stay in good health!
