Add a glowing radiance to your skin with Ayurvedic Facial
According to Ayurveda, skin types can be categorized as per constitution of a person or their doshas. The skin of people with pitta constitutions are prone to acne, blemishes and pimples.
Generally facials start with a cleansing procedure. Since pitta types are prone to acne and blemishes, they should cleanse their face with a mixture of one tablespoon each of oatmeal, sandalwood powder, rose water, and lemon juice or fresh Aloe Vera juice. This paste should be applied to damp skin while avoiding the area around the eyes. You can wipe off the paste gently after a few minutes or rinse with water.
After completing the cleansing process, you can use the following ingredients to make a paste for a face massage. This is very beneficial for pitta type skin. Take almond powder (1 tablespoon), yogurt (1/4 tablespoon), honey (1 tablespoon), lemon juice (1 tablespoon) and orange peel powder (1 tablespoon). Mix the almond powder with yogurt and add honey, orange peel powder and lemon/ aloe Vera juice to the mix. Massage you face with the mix for at least 5 minutes.
Follow the face massage with steaming. A warm compress is better than steaming for people with a pitta constitution. For a warm compress, use water boiled with coriander seeds. Dip a cotton cloth in the warm water, squeeze it lightly and apply it over the face, avoiding the area around the eyes.
In the next step you can apply an Ayurvedic face mask which is great for pitta type skin. The ingredients in this face mask include red lentil powder (2 tablespoons), rice flour (2 teaspoons), oatmeal (2 teaspoons) and milk (sufficient enough to make paste). Mix all the ingredients with milk to make a smooth paste. Refrigerate for 10 minutes and apply the paste all over the face while avoiding the eye areas. Leave on for 20 minutes. Then dab the face with milk and massage in a circular motion with the fingertips. Wash off with normal temperature water.
Lastly, finish it with a moisturizer using the following ingredients. This moisturizer is highly effective pitta-type skin during the day. It will keep your skin soft, supple and rejuvenated. Take 30 ml aloe Vera gel, 1 tablespoon watermelon pulp and 15 ml lemon juice. Mash the watermelon into small pieces. Mix with lemon juice and Aloe Vera gel, then refrigerate for 20 minutes. Apply on the face and neck and allow it to dry for 30 minutes and then wash off. Alternatively, you can use sandalwood oil or ghee for moisturizing at night.
