The ancient medical science of Ayurveda takes a holistic approach to our health and wellness. This approach also includes adequate hair care, by achieving and retaining a state of balance and harmony among the three doshas, the vital energies in the human body.
Further ahead in this blog, we will delve deep into Ayurveda and reveal a few secrets to healthy hair growth.
Represented by the elements of air, excess vata leads to coarse and brittle hair as well as grey hair. People with Vata dominant constitutions, usually have fine and thin hair.
Represented by the elements of fire and water, imbalance in Pitta causes hair loss, premature greying of hair, and dandruff. People with Pitta dominant constitutions tend to have thick, oily hair.
Represented by water and earth, an excess amount of kapha can cause the presence of dandruff and oily hair. Such individuals have coarsely thick hairs.
Once the predominant dosha is determined one can easily take corrective measures to balance the doshas.
When it comes to Ayurvedic procedures, oiling is an essential and constant practice. Warm coconut, almond or castor oils can hydrate and oil the scalp, improve the hair follicles and decrease the itching.
Use the fingertips to softly rub the oil into the scalp in circling patterns. Concentrate on the regions where you see loss of hair, or they feel relatively dry.
You may blend the simple carrier oil and enhance its effects with useful essential oils such as sandalwood, cedar wood, lavender, or rosemary.
After applying the shampoo, flush out the hair with water infused with some herbs. Common ones include neem, amla, Bhringraj and Shikakai for strengthening the hair.
Moreover, protect your hair by nourishing it with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Load your diet with fruits, colourful vegetables, whole grains, and protein-rich foods.
Vitamins, such as A, B group of vitamins, C, D, and E.
Minerals, like Iron, Zinc, Copper, and Magnesium.
Proteins, such as egg, meat, fish, pulses and nuts.
Stress management: Stress can make you lose hair. Engage in activities that help you relax like yoga, meditation or even deep breathing.
Smooth Hair Care: Stay away from chemicals and styling that can damage your hair. Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, and let your hair dry out naturally.
Take amla powder and shikakai powder in equal quantities. Mix the powders with water to form a paste. Apply to the hair and scalp and wash it with water after a few minutes.
Mix coconut milk and honey to form a hair mask and apply it to your hair. After 30 minutes, rinse well with warm water.
Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight, and then blend into a paste. Apply onto the hair and scalp. Leave on for 30 minutes, and rinse off with warm water.
Take pure aloe vera gel and apply it to the scalp and the hair. Wait for thirty minutes and wash it out with warm water.
This natural oil is regarded as a growth enhancer for the hair, and it is usually included in Ayurveda hair care products.
Brahmi oil helps the scalp, strengthens the hair roots, as well as has positive effects on a person´s memory.
By incorporating these Ayurvedic practices into your hair care routine, you can promote healthy hair growth, reduce hair loss, and enhance your overall hair health.
