Ayurvedic Remedies for Hair Fall

Hair fall has become a common concern among both men and women lately.

Imagine, waking up and noticing strands of hair all over your body, or on the bedroom floor. Stressful, isn’t it? But wait, with a little patience, the right guidance, effective, ayurvedic hair care products and a dedicated routine, you can eliminate hair fall from your life for good!

In this blog, we will talk about Ayurvedic remedies for hair fall and help you achieve strong, shiny and nourished hair through the power of Ayurveda.

What are the most common triggers of hair fall?

  1. Improper Diet - A diet that lacks necessary nutrients, has been noted as one of the key reasons for hair fall. Poor nutrition weakens the follicles of hair, as well as the scalp which in turn can trigger hair fall.

  2. Stress & Anxiety - Needless to say, stress and anxiety operate in stealth, weakening the body and mind connection, and leaving us susceptible to a plethora of health conditions, hair fall is one of them.

  3. Environmental Triggers - Our surroundings play a major role in aggravating the doshas in our bodies, leading to hair fall. Being prone to pollution, direct exposure to UV and constant weather change can be key triggers of hair fall as well.

  4. Lack of Sleep - Lack of sleep has also been identified as a reason for hair fall.
An improper sleep cycle coupled with aggravated stress leads to Ama accumulation (i.e. toxins inside the body) which can turn fatal for the scalp and hair.

  5. Lifestyle / Habit-Related Triggers - In this fast-paced life, where we barely have time for self-love and care, we often fall prey to the clutches of erratic schedules, that deviate us from being in sync with nature or our own body’s needs, for that matter. All of this can very well lead to hair fall and even worse, so to speak.

While these are some of the common triggers of hair fall, it is also very important for us to talk about how the doshic imbalances can boil down to the same. Ayurveda suggests that each dosha influences the hair’s quality differently.

How do the three doshas in Ayurveda affect human hair?

  • Vata dominance reflects as dry and frizzy hair, often brittle and causing split ends.
  • Pitta dominance leads to thinning of hair, receding hairlines and increases the chances for premature greying of hair
  • Kapha dominance thickens the texture of the hair and also makes it super oily

Can Ayurvedic Detoxification Help With Hair Fall?

Ayurveda suggests that the human body should undergo detoxification frequently to get rid of the Ama from the body, which creates a suitable environment for the development of diseases, in this case, causing hair fall. A certified Ayurveda doctor will suggest therapies like Shirodhara, which can be very effective in the case of hair fall. Such therapies often involve the combination of herbal oils and head massage, thereby helping improve blood circulation and nourishing the follicles, roots and scalp appropriately.

What Is A Good DIY Hair Care Routine, From An Ayurveda Standpoint?

Ayurveda suggests a good hair care routine should involve the following:

  1. Massages with medicated oils (including herbs such as Bringraja) for nourishment and moisturisation of the scalp. Doing it regularly will also stimulate hair growth, not to mention helps de-stress and is often very relaxing.

  2. Using Herbal Hair packs or Hair Lep to cleanse, strengthen and nourish the hair, scalp and follicles. When buying an effective, herbal hair pack, make sure the product consists of essential herbs such as Shikakai, Amla, Reetha etc.

Embrace the goodness of Ayurveda in your daily routine and see how it makes you feel in love with yourself. Always remember one thing, Ayurveda is not just about the last moment, symptomatic relief. Instead, it is a holistic, life-long well-being journey, helping you achieve optimal health and sustaining it for a pain-free, full-of-energy, quality life.
