Benefits of Abhyanga, the Ayurvedic Beauty Ritual

Search Icon

The Sanskrit word for oil application, or self-massage, is Abhyanga, a practice that is both comforting and healing at the same time. These qualities make it an important part of the dincharya and it is recommended to give yourself one before you have a bath every morning to balance all the doshas, relieve fatigue, and increase stamina.

It also has an array of beauty benefits:

  • The administration of Abhyanga increases circulation within the body, especially to the nerve endings. While having excellent effects on your health, it also serves to restore a healthy glow to your complexion.

  • It makes the muscles of your body firmer, making them look more toned and tight.

  • It eliminates ama (toxins), that appear in the form of impurities on the skin from the body, thereby giving your skin a healthier look.

  • The special oils used for Abhyanga are great at hydrating the skin and making it soft and dewy.

  • It helps you sleep better, getting rid of those dark circles and under eye bags.

  • It slows down ageing by stimulating the growth of new skin cells.

How to give yourself a beautifying Abhyanga massage:

  • You can opt for sesame oil for its antioxidant benefits or a Jiva massage oil.

  • Heat the oil before performing the massage and then apply it to your entire body using the tips of your fingers.

  • After letting the oil sit on your body for 5 minutes, use your entire hand to massage it into your skin tissue.

  • Leave the oil on for 15 minutes and then wash off.

Abhyanga truly is an extraordinary part of Ayurveda and one that everyone should try and incorporate into their daily lives.

Ayurveda experts recommend that once every three months, you should undergo a complete Panchakarma cleanse and rejuvenation to flush out toxins and recharge your bodily energies. Call 0129-4040404 to talk to a Jiva Panchakama expert today.
