Ritucharya – means “following a lifestyle and diet according to the seasons”. Ayurveda lays a lot of importance on staying as close to nature as possible to maintain good health and prevent diseases. Read on to learn simple things that you can start applying in your life right away.
During monsoons you feel heavy, sweaty, itchy, your skin is irritable, and you feel weak and bloated most of the time. And, there is lack of appetite due to imbalanced digestive fire (Jatharagni). Due to imbalance in Pitta and Vata doshas, you may also observe skin and hair problems.
Ayurveda suggests a few very effective techniques to maintain a balance in all three doshas (bodily humours) and stay in the prime of your health.
Do not sit or lie down on the floor since it aggravates Vata and can cause joint pain.
Keep nails clean and well-trimmed to avoid fungal/bacterial infections.
Avoid sleeping during day time to prevent digestion problems.
Do not stay in wet clothes, change immediately if you get wet.
Include food that counters Vata imbalance such as fresh fruits, vegetables and legumes. Avoid spicy foods and refrain from eating heavy meals.
To improve digestion, chew a piece of fresh ginger with salt and a squirt of lemon juice.
