Simple home remedies for common cold

Search Icon

A common cold is one of the most common health disorders. Be it infants or old-aged people, it can affect anybody, anytime. In a bid to save ourselves the trouble of a runny or congested nose, we often choose one of the following done-to death options:

Leave the cold to heal by itself:

Many people believe a cold has to run its course before the individual feels any better. As a result, they decide to leave it alone and do nothing about it. Leaving a disease to heal by itself is one of the silliest things you can do. It just worsens your condition further. If you are blessed with strong body immunity, you might get better with time.

However, this happens to very few, lucky people and it's not worth the risk. So, give your cold the attention it deserves.

Seek instant comfort

Popping an antibiotic pill is the most common and immediate solution that people think of when they have cold. And why not! It saves you time and ensures you are not confined indoors for the sake of 'rest'.

Even though antibiotics and other medicines provide instant relief from these symptoms, in the long term, they actually throw our body immunity out of balance.

Remedies

We often fail to understand that coughs and colds are recurring in nature. Therefore, popping the antibiotic pill or just leaving it alone will not help your cause in the long term.

For this reason, home remedies are extremely popular to facilitate recovery and provide relief from most symptoms.

The home remedies suggested by Doctor Granny will not only aid the treatment process, but also enhance your body immunity so that you can ward off infections and maintain overall health.

Try out these basic remedies to get relief from common cold and cough:

  • Prepare a mixture of powdered dried ginger root, black pepper, and long pepper in equal amounts and store in an airtight container. Have ½ teaspoon of this powder mixed with ½ teaspoon of honey twice a day with lukewarm water.

  • Mix ½ teaspoon of licorice root powder, ½ teaspoon of black pepper powder, and ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder along with 7-10 basil leaves in 1 cup of water. Boil until liquid is reduced to half. Add ½ teaspoon of sugar and drink it lukewarm twice a day.

  • Mix ½ teaspoon licorice root powder, ½ teaspoon fresh ginger juice, and ½ teaspoon honey. Take 3-4 times a day.

  • Make a decoction by boiling 4 cloves of crushed garlic in a cup of water and reduce it to half. Add a pinch of salt and drink it lukewarm.

Note:

Please remember that home remedies cannot replace medicines, as every medicine has its own importance in treating health conditions. Always seek professional advice if you feel your condition is not improving.
