Ready to kick out the winter blues and lethargy? In desperate need of that burst of enthusiasm and energy? According to Ayurveda, you suffer from loss of energy when your Kapha dosha is aggravated. To re-ignite your Agni, your body’s ultimate source of energy, Ayurveda recommends Kapha pacifying foods, one of which is ginger (adrak).
Ginger is excellent for pacifying Kapha accumulated during winters. Our mothers and grandmothers have always recommended a hot cup of ginger tea to alleviate so many of your health woes, be it an upset tummy, joint pain, nausea or cold and flu. Ginger, by itself or when added to preparations, eliminates ama (toxins) and rekindles your Agni.
Here’s an easy-to-make ginger pickle recipe that will give your energy levels the boost they need.
Peel ½ pound fresh ginger and cut them into thin, even slices.
Place the sliced ginger pieces on a cotton cloth and sprinkle salt. Make sure to coat all the pieces evenly.
Put the sliced ginger in an airtight glass container.
Add 3 ½ teaspoons of turmeric and mix thoroughly.
Add lemon juice from fresh lemons to the mix until the liquid is approximately 1–1 ½ inch above the ginger.
Once done, close the lid and shake well.
Refrigerate the pickle for up to 4 weeks and your pickle is ready!
Eat 3-4 slices of this pickle before meals to kick-start your sluggish digestion. It will prepare the digestive system to receive food and break it down effectively.
