The Ayurvedic Perspective
-
If you have an aggravated vata, this can cause a pain in the heel as the vata blocks the srotas (channels) in the heel.
-
An excess of ama (toxins) in the body can cause heel pain if it’s accumulated in the heel region.
Home Remedies
-
Soak your feet in warm water with salt in it. This helps release the accumulated vata and bring relief.
-
Make a paste out of haldi (turmeric) and gur (jaggery) and apply it to the heel overnight to help with the swelling.
-
Add ½ tsp ajwain (Carom seeds), 1 grounded lehsun (garlic) and 1 kali of adrak (ginger bud) to til (sesame) oil. Let the mix heat for 2-3 minutes on low flame. Massage your heels with this lukewarm oil regularly.
-
Have a glass of milk with ghee in it before bed. This ghee will kindle your agni (digestive fire) and help release accumulated ama, thereby bringing relief from the pain in your heels.
While these home remedies will alleviate the pain and ease the discomfort, if the heel pain persists, you should consult a Jiva doctor. Dial 0129-4040404 from your mobile phone or click on ‘Speak to a Doctor’ under the CONNECT tab in the Jiva Health App.
