Sandalwood, The Best Friend Your Skin Can Have

Chandan (sandalwood), long considered to be sacred in Ayurveda, has amazing tri-doshic qualities, meaning that it is one of those rare things that has a positive impact on Pitta, Vata and Kapha. In skin care, it has been used in many forms, including fresh pastes, powders and essential oils. Here’s a quick glance at how you can use sandalwood for all skin types:

  • Vata Skin Types tend to get dry and flaky. Sandalwood makes for the perfect moisturizer to lubricate and restore moisture.

  • Pitta skin types need deeper cleansing. Using a sandalwood cleanser removes impurities from your skin and protects it from pigmentation, blackheads, etc.

  • Kapha skin type is prone to acne because of its oily nature. The astringent property of sandalwood pacifies kapha and keeps the oiliness to a minimum.

Here are some sandalwood recipes you can try at home for glowing skin-

For Dark Spots:

  • Combine equal parts sandalwood powder and rose water and apply to skin.

  • Once it dries, sprinkle some water on it and gently rub it off.

For Rough Skin:

  • Combine 3-4 tablespoons of sandalwood powder with 1 tablespoon each of coconut and almond oil.

  • Apply it and allow it to dry.

  • Rinse with warm water.

For Pimples:

  • Combine equal parts turmeric and sandalwood along with a pinch of camphor.

  • Apply to the affected areas regularly.

For Dry Skin:

  • Combine sandalwood powder with milk till it turns into a paste.

  • Apply it and allow it to dry.

  • Rinse with warm water.
