Regular sweating is necessary to clear out ama (toxins) from the body. That’s why it’s healthy to engage in regular exercise. Ayurveda also recommends saunas and steam bath (svedana) to encourage perspiration.
However, if you don’t sweat sufficiently, it can lead to blockage of the skin pores, reduced skin sensation, and fall of body hair. Also, insufficient sweating can have a severe impact on the temperature regulating system of the body.
Heavy sweating is equally harmful as it dehydrates your body. It can lead to the accumulation of bacteria resulting in unpleasant body odour. Excessive perspiration can also lead to fungal infection in areas that are consistently moist, such as between the toes or folds of the skin.
According to Ayurveda, excessive sweating is caused due to aggravated Pitta dosha. The aggravated pitta can be due to a hectic and stressful lifestyle, healthy eating habits, etc.
