Just like any other muscle in our body, we can strengthen and train our brain to retain more and learn faster. And believe it or not, improving your child’s memory is easier than it sounds. All it takes is trying out this fun new memorization technique: The First Letter Method.
Here’s how it works:
-
Pick up the sentence that your child is trying to learn. For example, English is an interesting language.
-
Now ask your child to jot down the first letter of each word in the sentence. (eg. E, I, A, I, L). This forms an acronym combining the first letter of each word.
-
Ask your child to use these letters, or the acronym formed from them, as a clue and recite each word.
-
The next step is to delete the last letter in the sentence and recite it. (eg. E, I, A, I,)
-
Continue this exercise till all the letters are deleted.
This is an efficient memory technique for remembering things as acronyms are often used for retaining a sentence or large group of words or topics in a particular order. Results will take time, but if you’re persistent, you’ll notice a difference soon. Remember that a good memory is a skill like any other skill, it takes time, practice and dedication.
