What is Ayurvedic Facial?

Ayurveda has always understood that beauty and its maintenance is a result of general physical health and appropriate daily care. Modern cosmetology sees beauty as a pleasant external appearance. Ayurveda sees it as an indication of a person’s overall health, divided into three categories: outer beauty, inner beauty and secret beauty. Ayurvedic facial contains many steps, which is carried out by using different herbs and decoctions to help enhance natural facial beauty.

Why Ayurvedic Facial?

Ayurvedic facial is beneficial for augmenting facial beauty and relaxing the body. It includes application of herbal powders, which are free from preservatives and chemicals. The facial benefits the face by improving blood circulation, enhancing fairness, stimulating nerves, and softens the skin.

Who Needs Ayurvedic Facial?

Ayurvedic facial treatment is generally recommended for people who have dull skin, dry skin, oily skin and sensitive skin. Those who have some kind of skin-related problem can also get this treatment done and see a difference in their face. People who lead stressful lifestyles can also get this treatment done, as it not only enhances the beauty of the face, but also gives deep relaxation to the whole body.

What is Involved in an Ayurvedic Facial Session?

  1. Initial cleansing: Ayurveda suggests the use of herbal powder to cleanse the skin. Various types of liquids are mixed with herbal powders, which forms a creamy paste. This paste is applied on the face.
  2. Oleation massage: Facial massage works in two ways - locally and reflexively. Locally, the massage improves the facial skin and uplift the face. Reflexively, it relaxes and deeply nourishes the body. Depending on the skin type, herbal oil is used for doing this massage.
  3. Herbal steam/compress: The herbs to be used are boiled with water and the face is exposed to the steam for 5-10 minutes. The herbs used in this are those which increase blood circulation, expel impurities, soothe and heal the skin, as well as having therapeutic values, i.e. promotes relaxation and enhances mood. For compression, water and herbs are prepared which are then filtered. A cloth is immersed in the decoction and wringed. Holes are cut for eyes, nose and mouth, and the cloth is then placed onto the face.
  4. Gentle scrub:The mixture of coarse herbal powder and relevant Drava Dravya (fluid substance) is used for the scrub.
  5. Cleansing mask or facial pack: There are three main types of masks: cleansing, nourishing and stimulating. Clay is considered the best base for all skin types. While preparing the masks and packs, different types of fruits and vegetables can be used depending on the skin type.
  6. Toning or rejuvenation: Toner helps remove residue of all the previous procedures. It refines the pores and prepares the face for moisturising treatment.
  7. Moisturising: Every skin type requires moisturiser. It protects the skin by acting as a physical barrier, and also protects the skin from invasion by bacteria and keeps makeup out of the pores.
  8. Hydrating: It further helps in maintaining the moisture of the skin.
