Search Icon

Would you like to have insulin injections all your life? No one would. Hence, you should alter your lifestyle in such a way that you stimulate your body to produce natural insulin. Changes to your lifestyle can also help in reducing the insulin resistance thereby helping in the treatment of Type-2 diabetes. Let us look at some simple dos and don’ts to manage diabetes in Ayurvedic lifestyle.

The Do’s

Naturally, one should begin on a positive note. Let us concentrate on what you should do to manage diabetes.

Have a healthy diet :

It is advisable to eat only as much as your body needs. Overeating can unnecessarily build up the blood glucose levels. We have a tough time managing the existing food. Should we make it harder for our body by overeating? Carbohydrates convert into sugar. You need sugar for energy, but diabetes mellitus patients develop resistance to insulin thereby releasing the consumed sugar into the blood and thus spiking blood sugar levels. Have a healthy diet with lots of fibrous fruits and other food, low in fat content. Whole grains, vegetables, and fruits should form essential ingredients of your diet.

Exercise well :

Be active. A sedentary lifestyle can increase accumulation of fat in our bodies thereby bringing about an imbalance in the Doshas. Exercise regularly and ensure that you remain fit and healthy. Yoga is very good for relieving stress symptoms. Some of the asanas can also help the body in producing natural insulin thereby providing great relief to diabetic patients.

Have regular check-ups :

Maintaining your blood sugar level is important. You need to go for regular check-ups to ensure proper levels of blood sugar. This can also help you in guarding against the development of heart diseases and nerve damage.

The Don’ts:

  • Do not become stressed - Stress is one of the most important causes of diabetes. Doing breathing exercises like Pranayama can help you reduce your stress levels. You become calmer thus effectively controlling your blood sugar levels.
  • Do not Smoke – Smoking can aggravate various problems connected with diabetes. A diabetic smoker is more likely to develop respiratory problems and lung damage as compared to non-diabetic smokers. As it is, you have a problem. Is it wise to compound it further?
  • Do not consume alcohol – Alcohol and caffeinated drinks are strictly prohibited for diabetes patients. They can increase the blood sugar level to abnormal levels. In case you do feel the need to have alcohol, you can go for wines. But, it is better to note that wines are high in carbs.

Conclusion:

We have seen three dos and don’ts that every diabetic patient should strictly adhere to in an Ayurvedic lifestyle but for long term solution, consult with an ayurvedic doctor to get the best ayurvedic medicine for Diabetes
