Who runs the world? Girls! It’s true, from our mothers to our sisters, wives, grandmothers, aunts, friends – all the amazing women in our life truly keep it going. But these Superwomen often forget to take care of their own health in the daily bustle of looking out for us! Indian women are at risk of some very serious health issues that they either do not know about or choose to ignore. Kidney failure, breast cancer, diabetes, menstrual problems – many of these diseases are known to be leading causes of death in women globally, but surprisingly, these are easily avoidable with timely intervention and treatment with Ayurveda.
Here are 5 most common health matters that should be taken seriously:
1. Irregular Menstrual Patterns: Variation in date of periods by 8 days or more is medically considered irregular menses. Some women experience larger variations, which may be go up to 21 days. PCOD has become a more commonly known medical term today, than ever before. The reason behind these irregularities could be bad diet and lifestyle decisions leading to excess weight gain or loss, hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, PCOD (polycystic ovarian disorder), long-term use of contraceptives etc. However, sometimes irregular menses may be caused because of uterine or cervical cancer, uterine polyps or fibroids. If your menstrual patterns have been out of rhythm, seek a doctor’s opinion at the earliest.
2. Fatigue: Women are also affected by fatigue or lack of energy. Fatigue may be caused by anaemia, sleep deprivation, sleep apnoea and exertion. If not treated, fatigue eventually turn into guilt, irritability, crying spells or clinical depression.
3. Heart Diseases: Heart diseases claim more lives than breast cancer in women worldwide, and yet a surprisingly large number of women aren’t aware of the risks. Awareness is the best way to prevent deaths due to heart disease. Experts advise regular medical check-ups for women above 45 to identify any problem at the outset and take early action.
4. Diabetes: Diabetes is a disease that affects everybody irrespective of gender. One form of diabetes that is common in women results from PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). As a result of excess sugar in urine, this results in yeast infection in the vagina. Women are also at risk of gestational diabetes post-pregnancy.
5. Chronic Kidney Disease: In chronic kidney diseases, the body cannot eliminate toxins, and these pass on to the body fluids. Fluid retention in the body, especially in the lungs and heart, is the leading cause of death. If you are above 50, or have high BP, or if you have been living with Type 2 diabetes, you are at high risk of suffering from chronic kidney disease.
